Michael MCQuary

Dr. Michael McQuary graduated from UC Berkeley, received a Masters and School Administration Credential from Fresno State, and a Doctorate in Education from the University of Southern California. He acquired his elementary and secondary teaching credentials in San Francisco and taught in inner city, rural, and suburban schools and colleges. He was a school principal, district administrator, a county supervisor of curriculum and instruction, and a California Department of Education consultant (Distinguished Schools Validator and School Improvement Program Quality Review Team Leader).

Prior to settling into San Diego, where he currently lives, Dr. McQuary taught middle school math at the Tibetan Children’s Village in the Himalayan Mountains and, with the help of a Rotary and Donner Foundation Grant, successfully funded the construction of a 35 station internet computer lab that connected students, staff, and the Tibetan refugee community in Dharamsala, India with the world.

Currently, Dr. McQuary is on the School Board of the San Diego Unified School District (2nd largest school district in California). He is also a member of the Board of Directors of Sister Cities International and is Chairman of the Board of San Diego International Sister Cities Association (SanDISCA), which coordinates the activities of the 16 Sister Cities that the City of San Diego has in 15 different countries. He is a charter member of the San Diego - Panama Sister City Society, honorary board member of the San Diego - Yokohama Sister City Society, and a member of the San Diego - Perth Sister City Society, and the San Diego - Tijuana Sister City Society.

Dr. McQuary is a community leader, who has served 6 years on the Pacific Beach Town Council and is currently a member of the La Jolla Golden Triangle Rotary Club, having served as President of the Rotary Club of Mission Bay and on multiple Rotary Club and Rotary District 5340 committees (Foundation, Strategic Planning, San Diego Youth Symphony's International MusiCamp, Rotary Peace Committee, and International Services Committee).
